ISL champions East Bengal rope in Nigerian striker Nsungusi Effiong

Effiong joins East Bengal FC from Punjab FC
The summer transfer market is heating up as the Indian Super League (ISL) champions East Bengal FC rope in Nigerian striker Nsungusi Effiong ahead of the 2026-27 season. The Nigerian striker makes his move to the champion side from Punjab FC as East Bengal FC look to gather a competitive squad ahead of the crucial ACL 2 preliminary round and the ISL 2026-27 season.
This comes after the departure of ISL 2025-26 golden boot winner Youssef Ezzejjari from the club, with East Bengal also appointing Antonio Lopez Habas as head coach following Oscar Bruzon’s departure.
A goalscoring threat

Nsungusi Effiong is a 26-year-old Nigerian centre-forward who poses a constant goalscoring threat to the East Bengal squad. The Nigerian striker has already made 12 appearances for Punjab FC in ISL 2025-26, clocking 1018 minutes, during which he scored 7 goals and provided 2 assists, for a total of 9 goal contributions in just 12 games and a bunch of experience playing in India.
Effiong has also played a good number of matches in the second division of Danish club football, making 55 league appearances and scoring 9 times.
At just 26, Effiong has already gathered the experience of playing across various competitive leagues in Denmark, Ghana, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Romania.
With his physicality and eye for goal, Effiong can be a very good addition to the Torchbearers’ squad as they now look to compete in the ACL 2 Preliminary stage and also retain their title heading into ISL 2026-27
