The attacking player is recovering from an injury.

Jama Musiala is scheduled to return to group practice this week, but will not be part of the squad for Bayern Munich‘s upcoming match against VfB Stuttgart on Friday.

The German international is currently working closely with Bayern’s medical team and head coach, Vincent Kompany, to adapt and manage his medication to reduce the possibility of subsequent breakdowns.

After missing the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Borussia Dortmund (2-1), according to kicker, Jamal Musiala will also be absent from the start of the Bundesliga next Friday evening.

As a result, the 23-year-old will not be included in the team to face Stuttgart. Bild, meanwhile, reports that a comeback as early as matchday two against FC Schalke 04 is possible.

In two straight friendly matches, Musiala of FC Heidenheim briefly fainted and subsequently stated that he suffers from absence seizures.

“Absence epilepsy originates in the so-called thalamus, the diencephalon, which controls consciousness. If there is a dysfunction here, a person can suddenly become unresponsive out of the blue,”

Dr Regina Becker of the Neurozentrum München Schwabing informed SPOX about Musiala’s medical condition:

“The brain enters an exceptional state, the neurons fire uncontrollably and communication between the thalamus and the so-called cerebral cortex, where we consciously perceive things, is interrupted. The patient no longer perceives their own surroundings, stares into space or – as in Musiala’s case – even falls over. To outsiders, the patient often appears frozen.”

Max Eberl, a board member for sport, verified the news, emphasising that the club and Jamal Musiala‘s teammates were always aware of it. The frightening episodes in the friendlies followed a change in medication. To allow that adjustment to happen without any more incidents, Bayern temporarily pulled Musiala from team practice before the Supercup versus Borussia Dortmund.

“It is only about him making the adaptation without pressure, without us doing anything additional. That’s the only reason,” coach Vincent Kompany said last Friday. He also announced: “We know how we have to deal with it. He will train individually this week.”

What problem does Jamal Musiala have?

The Bayern Munich midfielder suffers from absence seizures, a neurological condition that briefly causes loss of consciousness. He fainted twice in friendlies against RB Leipzig and Heidenheim.

Is Jamal Musiala injured?

He is not injured in the traditional sense but is recovering under medical supervision.

When will Jamal Musiala return to playing again?

He will miss Bayern’s Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart on August 28, but Bild reports that a comeback as early as Matchday 2 vs Schalke 04 is possible.
