A number of new deals and contract extensions were completed during the previous week.
The new Indian football season is approaching fast. The Indian Super League and the I-League clubs are looking to add better options and retain good players. The transfer window is picking up pace as a result with teams becoming active ahead of the new term. The ISL and I-League teams have already made a number of transfers, however, continue to be keen-eyed in the market.
The past week saw a number of clubs from both leagues make new moves in the transfer market. Let’s take a quick look on what's happening at the ISL and I-League clubs.
Indian Super League
Bengaluru FC
The Blues were one of the few ISL sides to complete transfers in the previous week. 24-year-old midfielder Rohit Kumar joined the Blues on a two-year deal. He joins the club from Kerala Blasters and will be available for the upcoming AFC Cup fixture against Eagles FC.
Bengaluru FC recently parted ways with their Spanish defender Juanan and are set to add Brazilian defender Alan Costa to their ranks. The center-back will arrive on a two-year loan deal from Brazilian Serie B club Avai FC, according to journalist Rodrigo Faraco and Brazilian media NSC Total.
The outfit did not stop there as it decided to extend the contract of defender Yrondu Musavu-King. The former Granada player will stay with the Blues until 2023 after recently signing for them under Marco Pezzaiuoli.
Chennaiyin FC
The Marina Machans completed the signing of defender Salam Ranjan Singh from ATK Mohun Bagan. The 25-year-old joins on a multi-year deal after representing the Mariners in the previous campaign. “It feels amazing to join Chennaiyin FC. My aim is to help the club achieve its goals while garnering as much playing time as possible,” he said.
Chennaiyin FC also roped in experienced left-back Narayan Das from SC East Bengal. The 27-year-old signed a two-year deal with Marina Machans. He is one of the most experienced Indian defenders in the ISL with 107 appearances to his name.
ATK Mohun Bagan
The runners-up from the 2020-21 campaign have signed Deepak Tangri from Chennaiyin FC. The ISL giants have made a number of transfers already to bolster an already strong squad in order to compete with Mumbai City FC and others in the upcoming campaign. The 22-year-old midfielder has signed a two-year deal with the Mariners.
Hyderabad FC
Hyderabad FC are in talks with Juanan after the defender and his former club Bengaluru FC mutually parted ways earlier in the past week. The defender is keen to continue in the ISL after achieving success with the Blues. Odisha FC are also interested in recruiting the Spaniard.
I-League
NEROCA FC
Unlike their ISL counterparts. the I-League clubs have made comparatively lesser numbers of transfers in the previous week. NEROCA FC have acquired the services of Sweden Fernandes from Hyderabad FC. The player arrives on a one-year loan after failing to register a single appearance last season. The 21-year-old will benefit from the move due to more time on the pitch.
TRAU FC
TRAU FC have signed an exciting young winger in Nongthombam Singh. The former Indian U-17 star arrives at the I-League outfit from Chennaiyin FC. The 21-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the club, which means he will stay at least until the 2022/23 season.
Gokulam Kerala
I-League’s Gokulam Kerala FC have signed Deepak Singh from NEROCA FC. The right back played 11 times in the league last season and will look to perform better at his new club.
“We have all seen how Gokulam won the I-League. The brand of football they played is inspiring and it will be an honour for me to represent them next season. I will try my best for the club and its fans,” he said.
The reigning I-League champions have made a number of other transfers earlier in this window.
Mohammedan SC
I-League outfit Mohammedan SC were also active in the market in the previous week as they announced three transfers. They have signed Lalramhmunnmawia for a duration of two years. The defender has played for Sudeva FC and Aizawl FC previously.
They have also brought in Malsawmzuala who is a former India U19 player. He comes from league rivals Aizawl FC and has prior experience of playing for Bengaluru FC and Jamshedpur FC.
The Kolkata-based outfit have signed an exciting young midfielder Ridge Demello. The teenager plied his trade for Bengaluru United in the previous season and has represented the Indian U-16 side, including the AFC U-16 Championships.
