Nine years after Wayne Rooney left Manchester United, his son Kai Rooney is making waves with his performance for the club’s Under-18 team. The 16-year-old forward recently grabbed headlines by scoring an incredible four goals in just 44 minutes during a Premier League U18 clash.
Kai’s four goals came during a 6-0 thrashing of Burnley by Darren Fletcher’s Man United U18 team on Tuesday. Interestingly, this took his tally to nine goals across all competitions this season.
According to a match report from the Daily Star, Kai started up front against Burnley and opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. He then doubled the lead from the spot four minutes into the second half. The teenager then completed his hat-trick in the 63rd minute before scoring again four minutes later.
Earlier on Saturday, Kai had registered an assist during United U18’s 6-3 win against Liverpool.
His performance has gone viral on social media, with Manchester United fans calling for him to be fast-tracked to the first team. Meanwhile, the senior side, led by an under-fire Michael Carrick, will take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Born in Liverpool on November 2, 2009, to Wayne and Coleen Rooney, Kai Rooney currently plays primarily as a right winger. But he is also adept at playing as a centre-forward. He is left-footed, allowing him to cut inside from the right flank.
Having initially joined the Manchester United youth academy in 2016, Kai left for Manchester City just two months later. Following his father’s move to Major League Soccer (MLS), Kai signed with Bethesda Soccer Club.
The youngster rejoined Man United’s youth academy in December 2020 and has continued to progress through the club’s youth system.
So far this season, Kai has scored five goals and provided one assist in three Under-18 Premier League appearances. He also made his UEFA Youth League debut two weeks before the Burnley match, playing 24 minutes. He also played 12 minutes in Premier League 2.
