Lisandro Martinez subbed off with an injury during Spain vs Argentina FIFA World Cup 2026 final

The 28-year-old was subbed in the 44th minute.

Led by Lionel Scaloni, the Argentina national football team are battling it out against the Spain national football team in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final. The high-stakes contest is taking place at the New York-New Jersey Stadium in the United States of America.

Tensions rise for the defending champions as centre-back Lisandro Martinez has been sent off with an injury. It can be a big setback for La Albiceleste as the 28-year-old has been doing a commendable job in the backline for his nation at the biggest stage of football.

Just three minutes before getting subbed off, Lisandro Martinez was also shown a yellow card after his unpleasant tackle on the Spanish forward Mikel Oyarzabal. Lionel Messi and company haven’t come up with any chances on goal in the first half and will be looking to step up their game in the second.

After going down in the 44th minute, Lisandro Martinez was pointing towards his right thigh and immediately gave a sign to come off. He limped off the field and his injury might not be something very serious. Nicolas Otamendi has replaced Martinez on the field during the Spain vs Argentina FIFA World Cup 2026 final and it will now be interesting to see the performances by the Argentina national football team.

Luis de la Fuente’s Spain have controlled most of the game. They have come up with three chances on goal and one of them has been on target. La Roja have controlled the tempo of the game till now. After half-time, La Albiceleste will be looking to spice things up.
