The day is finally here, when the biggest tournament in sports history kicks off. FIFA World Cup 2026 is here. It will be jointly hosted by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.
This edition’s FIFA World Cup will be the first to be hosted by three host nations. It will also be the first time 48 nations will take part in this competition, as FIFA expanded it from 32.
It will be jointly hosted by 16 cities, eleven in the United States, three in Mexico and two in Canada. Many nations will make their debut in this iconic edition of the World Cup.
Lionel Messi’s Argentina lifted the trophy last time around. While this is expected to be the ‘Final Dance’ for some big football stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr, Lionel Messi & Luka Modrić.

A total of two matches will be held on the opening day of the tournament. While a massive opening ceremony is in store for the fans as well. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will feature three interconnected opening ceremonies across the co-host nations, with headline performances by Shakira, Burna Boy, J Balvin, Tyla, and Katy Perry.
Co-hosts Mexico start their campaign against South Africa at the Estadio Azteca. This same match also kicked off the 2010 edition of the World Cup.
The second match of the tournament is between South Korea and Czech Republic at Estadio Akron.
