They then played Switzerland in the quarter-finals, winning 3-1 in extra time. Argentina then defeated rivals England 2-1 in a thrilling semi-final to confirm their consecutive final appearances.
Spain and Argentina have a very competitive history, with both nations winning six times each across their 14 encounters. This will mark their second meeting at the World Cup, with their only previous game coming 60 years ago in the 1966 World Cup group stage, where Argentina secured a 2-1 victory.
