Several players remain injury doubts for the Red Devils.

Manchester United will travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, October 31, to take on Chelsea in a crucial clash in the Premier League 2026-27.

The Red Devils are under increasing pressure, having made their worst-ever start in the Premier League. They currently sit in 16th place, and head coach Michael Carrick cannot afford another loss if he wants to keep his job.

United have picked up just seven points so far in their league campaign and remain winless in their last eight matches across all competitions. Carrick will hope that his side can turn the tide against the Blues, but several injury concerns are threatening to complicate his team selection.

Key players, including captain Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo and Benjamin Sesko, have suffered injuries of varying severity in recent times. Let’s take a look at the complete injury list for the Red Devils.

After an explosive post-match interview led to him being dropped to the bench for the defeat against Bournemouth, Samuel Luckhurst revealed that the Portuguese midfielder had recently undergone treatment for an unspecified injury at Carrington.

The journalist revealed that Carrick’s decision to bench Fernandes against Bournemouth was a sporting one rather than being related to injury. The head coach revealed that Fernandes would continue in his role as Manchester United’s skipper following clear-the-air talks and that he was likely to play a part against Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo has recovered from the injury he picked up against Tottenham Hotspur. The England international recently returned to team training, and Carrick has refused to rule him out for the clash against the Blues.

“Good news, Kobbie has done a little bit of training yesterday,” Carrick said in the pre-match press conference. “So, he’s back and around the group, so that’s obviously positive.”

One player who is definitely ruled out for an extended period is striker Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian forward has yet to recover from a shin injury that has troubled him since the start of the season. Recent reports indicate that he will not return before the start of next year.

“Unfortunately, Ben looks like he’s going to be out for a period of time. We’re still not clear on exactly how long but it’s going to be a longer period of time,” Carrick said.

“It was the process and, as I said to you before, we had to go through the process, a bit of a healing process for the injury, to see how it would react, in what direction to go with that… Going through this again, and for us to not have him available, is obviously a blow, but we’ll try to get him back as quick as we can.”

Marcus Rashford missed the matches against Como and Bournemouth because of a hip injury. The winger will be assessed by the medical team before the Chelsea clash, although his participation remains uncertain.

Luke Shaw, however, has not recovered from his injury problem. The left-back will miss at least two of United’s next clashes. He is in line to return to action against Aston Villa on November 8.

Patrick Dorgu is also expected to be out for several weeks with a hamstring injury he suffered while playing for Denmark during the September–October international break.

With no natural left-back at his disposal, Carrick will field Diogo Dalot on the left. Leny Yoro will start on the right side of defence.

Defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte suffered a serious knee injury while representing Uruguay at the FIFA World Cup 2026. He is out for an indefinite period, with no return date fixed.
