The Red Devils will begin their UCL campaign against Sabah.

Manchester United will formally observe a minute of mourning before their UEFA Champions League 2026-27 league phase match against Sabah FC as the club is ready to make a return to Europe’s top continental competition.

The Red Devils are returning to the Champions League for the first time since the 2023/24 season, having finished third in the Premier League the previous season.

Michael Carrick’s team got drawn against Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Roma, Sporting CP, RB Leipzig, Villarreal, Como, and Sabah in the league phase, with the Azerbaijani side scheduled to visit Old Trafford.

Manchester United will hope that their return to the tournament heralds the start of a far more successful European campaign than the one they had three years ago.

The new league-phase system also allows little opportunity for poor beginnings, with each result determining whether teams advance directly to the round of 16, enter the play-offs, or are eliminated.

United understands that the encounter with Sabah might be crucial even at this early stage of the campaign. However, there will be a far more significant occasion before the football game begins.

Manchester United & Sabah players to hold moment of silence for Nepal flood victims

Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere

UEFA has formally announced that a moment of silence will be held before each Champions League match this week in respect of the victims of Nepal’s terrible floods.

The floods occurred on August 26, and UEFA has declared that banners with the slogan “You are not alone Nepal” will be displayed as European football offers its solidarity.

That ensures Manchester United and Sabah will both pay homage before their match at Old Trafford.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin stated that the European football family will unite to offer condolences and assistance to those impacted.

The gesture ensures that Manchester United’s long-awaited Champions League comeback begins with a period of reflection before turning back to the game itself.
