Mohammedan SC in do-or-die situation in I-league 2nd division against Hindustan FC
"We will play our next match as if it is the final," - Ranjan Chaudhury
Mohammedan Sporting Club will need to play out of their skin and grab full points in their next two matches to stay alive in the ongoing 2nd Division League.
The Preliminary Round Group-B fixture against Hindustan FC on Friday promises to be a intense battle involving high stakes. Mohammedan SC, who are on third position with 6 points from 4 games, cannot afford any slips-ups, as anything less than a win in their next two matches would virtually make it impossible for the black panthers to qualify for the final round.
Mohammedan SC's campaign faltered after a 0-2 defeat to Southern Samity last week, but a win against the Delhi outfit would definately rekindle their hopes. With only three points behind the leaders Southern Samity, who will be playing second placed Neroca FC on Saturday, there is a feeling in the Mohammedan SC camp that all is not lost yet.
“We will play our next match as if it is the final. We just cannot afford any slip-ups tomorrow and we have to give in our best,” said Mohammedan SC coach Ranjan Chaudhury.
“In the last game we were clearly the better side, but luck was not on our side as we could not able to get the job done despite dominating the entire second half. This time around we would not like to repeat the same mistakes,” he added.
Hindustan FC, on the other hand, currently at the bottom of the table and lost all four of their matches in the league. However the Ranjan Bhattacharya-coached side gave a tough competition to Mohammedan SC in the reverse fixture of the game two weeks ago in Delhi and will also come hard this time around to earn their first points in the league.
“Hindustan FC are a tricky team. We must be 100% concentrated and focused to negate their threats. It’s a tough battle but we are doing the best we possibly can,” coach Chaudhury added further.
On the team news front, Mohammedan SC will be missing the services of skipper Rana Gharami as he serves a one match suspension for receiving two yellow cards. However according to coach Chaudhury the rest of the squad is fully fit and will hope that Ivorian striker Leonce Dodoz can unleash some magic for them, but all in all, it's not looking easy against Hindustan FC and the black panthers need to pull something special out of the bag.
The match at Barasat Stadium match kicks off at 2 PM on Friday.
