The duo reached Kolkata to join the Black Panthers on Saturday morning.
Mohammedan SC have roped in Anwar Ali Jr and Himanshu Jangra for their forthcoming 2nd Division League campaign. The duo reached Kolkata on Saturday morning with Balbinder Singh and Jaskiranpreet Singh, who have been retained by the club.
Anwar Ali is Jr renowned for representing the Indian national team in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017. He was also a part of Mumbai City FC in the 2019-20 Indian Super League campaign. However, the defender was diagnosed with a congenital heart condition and hence had to opt out of the campaign. He went to France for treatment and will now look to resume his career with Mohammedan SC.
Himanshu Jangra is a 16-year-old striker and was the highest goal-scorer in the SAFF U-15 Championship that was held at Kalyani Stadium in 2019. The forward had notched seven goals in the tournament and is widely recognized as one of the most remarkable talents from his position in the country currently.
Jangra had played a solitary game in the 2nd Division I-League in the 2019-20 season for Punjab FC. He had bagged a brace against AU Rajasthan and thus earned a promotion to the senior team. Accordingly, the teenager made five appearances in the I-League for Punjab FC, which is a significant feat for a player of his age.
Both these youngsters have come out of Minerva Punjab's youth setup. It is rather interesting that Mumbai City FC decided to let go of Ali, considering he was touted to be a vital part of their plans for the 2019-20 campaign. However, the starlet’s stint with the metropolis club was delayed due to his illness and hence maybe the club decided to move on from him. Moreover, Ali will also arguably attain more playing time at Mohammedan SC.
