Mohammedan Sporting file charges against former coach Yan Law and Ranjit Bajaj
The club have accused their former head coach of circulating team's XI and strategies to the Minerva Academy owner.
Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting have filed charges against their former first-team coach Yan Law and Minerva Academy owner Ranjit Bajaj, accusing them of conspiring against the club’s best interests. This stunning revelation comes after the Black Panthers had terminated the contract of Law only after two games of their I-League Qualifiers campaign.
The second game of the tournament of Mohammedan Sporting against ARA FC, which saw the Kolkata side win 4-1, also witnessed a number of first-team regulars being benched by the team’s management. Every player who signed for Mohammedan Sporting from Punjab FC were left on the bench, leaving many to wonder the reason behind the decision.
However, Mohammedan Sporting officials have now filed an FIR to the Police against Yan Law and Ranjit Bajaj, saying that they suspect Law and Bajaj worked together to show favoritism towards the former Punjab FC players. It also reveals that Law had provided sensitive inside information regarding the starting XI of the club's opening I-League Qualifiers match against Garhwal FC to Bajaj as well.
As per Mohammedan Sporting Club’s general secretary Sk. Wasim Akram, Yan Law decided on the first XI for the match against Garhwal FC without consulting the team management and on his own whims, resulting in an unconvincing 1-0 win for the Black Panthers. The club also stated on the FIR that Yan Law had no right to unilaterally choose the starting XI, when he picked former Punjab FC players ahead of other deserving members.
Mohammedan Sporting management are said to have asked for clarifications from Law regarding his team selection for the first game, to which the young manager ‘reacted sharply’ and threatened them of dire consequences – citing his relation with Bajaj. According to the club, It was due to this revelation the management decided the team sheet in the second match against ARA FC, before terminating the contract of the coach.
According to the club officials, Law had also shared details of Mohammedan’s playing XI to outsiders and conspired with Bajaj regarding the tactical strategies and lineups which will be used throughout the I-League qualifiers campaign. The letter also questions Ranjit Bajaj staying in the same hotel where the team had stayed and cites his history of being blacklisted by the AIFF 'on issues of integrity and match fixing.'
Moreover, the letter also cited that Bajaj was rejected as a prospective investor of the club in the past for his ‘integrity issues’ and also accuses him to use the Mohammedan Sporting logo without consent on social media platforms.
