Due to the clubs’ contribution to West Bengal’s sports vertical, they will receive this prestigious award. The ceremony will be held on July 25, 2022, 4 pm at the Nazrul Mancha in Kolkata.
The Banga Bibhushan award was first introduced in 2011. Previously, this award had been presented to legends like former footballer and Mohun Bagan official, Shailen Manna, singers Manna Dey and Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, dancer Amala Shankar, actress Supriya Devi, writer Mahasweta Devi and many others.
Updates on ATK Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan SC
ATK Mohun Bagan are all set to start their pre-season at the Mohun Bagan Ground, Maidan tent, on 30th July. However, some of their players will reach the city a day later. Though a source has claimed that these sessions will be “closed door”, head coach Juan Ferrando has not yet asserted his say on this topic.
On July 29, Mohun Bagan Day will be celebrated at the club tent as it has been done since long. Liston Colaco will be presented with the Best Football Player (Shibdas Bhaduri Award). Meanwhile, Kiyan Nassiri will be given the Best Forward in Football (Subhas Bhowmick Award). Notably, Shyam Thapa will be the recipient of the prestigious Mohun Bagan Ratna. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be ushered on Balai Dey.
The club will play both the Durand Cup and the AFC Cup Inter-Zonal semi-final at Kolkata. It is crystal clear from their team building that the Mariners are fully focused on the AFC Cup campaign.
Mohammedan SC, on the other hand, have started their pre-season training camp. They have secured some delightful signings as well. Their recent foreign addition was Abiola Dauda.
On East Bengal
Rumours are claiming that the transfer ban imposed on the club has been lifted. However, there has been no update on the investor issue. The parties had formed a company named “Emami East Bengal Private Limited”. The application of the same was sent to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
But the failure to provide certain necessary documents led to the rejection of the same. Another application will be filed soon or has already been filed by the parties.
