Mohun Bagan lodge official complaint against East Bengal for displaying derogatory tifo

East Bengal supporters hinted that Mohun Bagan’s authority had influenced the referee in the said tifo.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant, the Kolkata-based outfit of the Indian Super League, has lodged a complaint against the city rival club East Bengal FC with ISL authorities for allowing fans who displayed a tifo against their management during the match against Kerala Blasters in ISL 2024-25.
The fans of East Bengal FC displayed a tifo in their match against Kerala Blasters FC, where they hinted at the chairperson of Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Sanjiv Goenka, of influencing the AIFF management for favoritism in the league. This is the second time this season that East Bengal fans have protested the ISL refereeing quality via Tifo.
Mohun Bagan lodge official complaint
A reliable source from Mohun Bagan Super Giant informed Khel Now that the club has lodged a complaint with the authorities against this tifo and the football culture of the club under Article 67 of the AIFF disciplinary code.
“How can the management and police allow a derogatory tifo against another club during the league match? It’s unacceptable,” said the official who wished to be anonymous.
Why was the tifo displayed?

The incident happened during the Kolkata derby match between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal FC, held in Guwahati on 11th January 2025. In the final minutes of the first half of the match, PV Vishnu’s shot touched Apuia’s hand inside the penalty box and in front of the goalpost. However, the referee decided not to award a penalty to East Bengal angering the fans.
East Bengal FC lost the match by 1-0. However, this specific handball incident and a red card to Souvik Chakrabarti in the second half sparked controversy among the fans. After the match, even East Bengal FC head coach Oscar Bruzon criticized the referee’s decision to show Souvik Chakrabarti a yellow card and described the decision as unfair.
“I cannot accept the red card for Souvik. Just watch what happened with the first yellow card; it is not fair. The second yellow card, he is stopping a counter-attack, and he has to do it, otherwise, it’s 2-0. but the first yellow card of the game is very unfortunate.”
“Again, this is the 5th time we’ve had a handball in the opponent’s box, and it is not called. We never get that decision. In critical moments, we never get the right call,” Bruzon remarked.
Earlier, Mohun Bagan Super Giants were also fined for a tifo they displayed during their match against Jamshedpur FC in the previous ISL 2023–24 season, under Article 67 of the AIFF disciplinary code.
