Mumbai City FC sign Diego Forlan as marquee player for ISL 3

The Uruguayan’s services had been sought by many other franchises in recent seasons.
Khel Now understands that Indian Super League outfit Mumbai City FC have signed former Uruguay international forward Diego Forlan as their marquee player for the upcoming season. The forward will reportedly earn close to Rs. 7 crore( $ 1.1 M) in his time with the Islanders.
The prolific frontman has attracted the attention of ISL chiefs before and Kolkata giants Atletico de Kolkata were understood to been keen on his services in 2015 but failed to agree a deal.
The 37-year-old enjoyed a decorated career in European club football winning the Premier League and FA Cup with Manchester United, the Intertoto Cup with Villarreal as well as the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup with Atletico Madrid amongst other honours.
Diego Forlan also earned 112 caps for his country scoring 36 goals and winning the Copa America.
The franchise from the metropolis have finished a disappointing seventh and sixth respectively in the two previous seasons failing to qualify for the play-offs . They will be hoping the marksman can herald a dramatic change in their fortunes this campaign.
