Newcastle United will host West Bromwich Albion in a second-round fixture of the Carabao Cup 2026-27 at St. James’ Park on Wednesday, August 26. The Magpies enjoyed an entertaining 2-2 draw with Liverpool in their English Premier League opener, and will look for a similar performance in the cup competition against their second-division opponents.
Despite losing a host of big names over the summer, Newcastle United almost claimed all three points in their opening clash against Liverpool. However, a 99th-minute penalty converted by Dominik Szoboszlai meant the hosts had to settle for a 2-2 draw.
Still, it marked a bright start to life under new head coach Matthias Jaissle. Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa, two players who severely underwhelmed last season, were excellent against the Reds and will look to continue that run against the Baggies.
Having barely survived relegation from the EFL Championship last season, West Brom have started the new season well. They opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over Norwich City before securing a 3-1 comeback win over Burnley. Although they will be heavy underdogs against the Magpies, the Baggies will hope for a shock win to progress to the third round.
