Neymar Jr of Brazil

Neymar scored Brazil’s last goal in international football as stoppage time penalty against Norway.

The Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, also popularly referred to as the Mecca of Indian football, is set to host the biggest game in the history of Indian football.

For the first time ever, the Brazilian national team is set to set foot on Indian soil for the most anticipated India vs Brazil fixture, scheduled to take place on October 3rd 2026, in Kolkata.

After bowing out of the FIFA World Cup 2026 against Norway in the Round of 16 clash, this will be Brazil’s first international appearance in the upcoming FIFA September-October international friendly window as they take on former AFC Asian Cup champions Australia and India.

Brazil enjoys a massive fanbase in India, and Neymar has been their major star attraction in the last few decades.

Ahead of Brazil’s visit to India, fans are keen to find out whether Neymar Jr has been selected in Brazil’s final squad set to travel to Australia and India.

Carlo Ancelotti announced his final 26-man squad that will be travelling to Asia to play two friendlies against the Socceroos in Townsville and Brisbane before heading to the City of Joy to lock horns with the Indian national team.

As expected, Brazilian legend Neymar Jr has not been called up to the national team as he announced his retirement from international football, following the Round of 16 exit from the FIFA World Cup 2026.

One of the greatest players to ever play this beautiful game of football, Neymar Jr has single-handedly carried Brazil in so many big competitions. The Santos forward has struggled a lot with injuries, but despite fitness concerns, his determination has seen him put his everything on the football pitch for decades.

Neymar’s last few moments in Brazil’s jersey seemed fated as he said goodbye to his glorious international career after scoring a penalty against Norway in the final few minutes of the game. The goal did ignite a ray of hope, but it was too late for Brazil to script a comeback as they fell 2-1 to Norway.

Apart from Neymar, several other veteran players have been dropped, including the likes of Inter Miami midfielder Casemiro, Alex Sandro, Fabinho and Danilo. All of them were previously part of Brazil’s squad in the FIFA World Cup 2026.

As Brazil navigates through a generational transition, Ancelotti has picked a relatively younger side with several players from the Brazilian top clubs like Flamengo, Santos and Corinthians.

Brazil’s offence looks deadly with Raphinha and Vini on the wings. Moreover, several players from the English Premier League, like Rayan of Bournemouth, Joao Pedro of Chelsea, Bruno Guimaraes of Arsenal and others have been selected to play against India.

Is Neymar included in Brazil’s squad for friendly against India?

No, Neymar will not feature for Brazil against India.

When will Brazil play India?

Brazil will play India on October 3rd at the VYBK Stadium in Kolkata.
