The Norway vs England match took place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, tonight.
Norway took on England in a FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final clash on July 11. Before kick-off in this exciting fixture, a minute’s silence was observed by both sets of players in Miami in honour of former South Africa international Jayden Adams, who died on Saturday.
Adams, a midfielder who played for Mamelodi Sundowns in the South African Premiership, represented Bafana Bafana in the ongoing expanded 48-team World Cup in North America. He played in three matches in the tournament for his nation, which was eliminated in the Round of 32.
Sadly, Adams died at the age of 25 in the Schotsche Kloof suburb of Cape Town. The cause of his death has not been disclosed. The South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) confirmed the news, expressing condolences to the player’s family.
As a result, both the Norwegian and English players maintained a moment of silence before their FIFA World Cup 2026 clash. Adams’ photograph was displayed on the scoreboard at Hard Rock Stadium.
A minute’s silence will likely also be observed before the upcoming match between Argentina and Switzerland.

England’s tough test against Norway
England are heavy favourites to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals, which would be their first appearance at that stage since their title victory in 1966. The Three Lions have been in decent form in the tournament, overcoming co-hosts Mexico in their Round of 16 clash.
However, they will face a tough test from the Vikings, who eliminated Brazil in the last match. The challenge will be further complicated by extreme heat throughout the match, with temperatures forecast to reach 43°C.
