The Nottingham Forest vs Leeds United match will take place on August 22.
Nottingham Forest begin their Premier League 2026-27 campaign with a home clash against Leeds United at the City Ground on Saturday. Ahead of this crucial fixture, head coach Oliver Glasner issued injury updates for the Tricky Trees’ league opener.
Glasner, who will be making his competitive debut with Forest, confirmed that two key players will not be taking part in the upcoming fixture due to injury issues. Full-back Nicolo Savona and captain Ryan Yates are the biggest absentees.
“Ryan Yates and Savona won’t make the matchday squad. But we still have 23 fit players, which means five can’t make the squad,” Glasner said.
“Everyone has had a chance to show through pre-season that they can help the team in winning games and I have to take a decision by tomorrow,” he added.
“But these two players can’t make the squad.”

Savona suffered a knee injury last season. He had to undergo surgery, which forced him to miss the end of the Premier League campaign for Nottingham Forest. The 23-year-old Italian defender has not recovered from his knee problem, which will force him to miss the Leeds game.
Glasner revealed that Savona had suffered a setback in his recovery, but confirmed that the player has returned to training. He should be fit in a few weeks.
“We thought he would be further than where he is now. He had a minor setback after his knee reacted more with the load than we wanted,” Glasner said. “…I think it will take a couple of weeks.”
Yates, meanwhile, will miss the upcoming game due to an unspecified issue. The English midfielder played 45 minutes in a pre-season friendly against Bayer Leverkusen. But failed to make the matchday squad for the final match against Stade Brestois.
