Les Bleus to take on the Atlas Lions in the quarterfinals.

The Paraguay national football team locked horns with the France national football team for their round of 16 contest at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It resulted in a close encounter at the Philadelphia Stadium.

Kylian Mbappe and company will now march on in the last 8 of the mega competition. They are going to take on the African giants, Morocco, in the quarter-final contest. The Didier Deschamps-led side did face a tough contest at the hands of Paraguay here.

Los Guaraníes were quite locked in against the two-time world champions, but a slight mistake from them in defence will now send them back home. They will leave with their heads held high. Maybe a better approach by them in the final third could’ve helped them against the Frenchman.

Important things we learned from this match:

1. France have things to figure out

Didier Deschamps’ men have now secured a spot in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinals. They might have come up with a positive outcome against Paraguay, but their performance in the final third raised some questions. They came up with 15 attempts on goal and only five of them were on target. Kylian Mbappe came up with a decisive penalty to help his side secure a win.

2. Kylian Mbappe steps up under pressure

The France national football team failed to fire the ball at the back of the net during most of the game. They have one of the best attacks in the tournament this year. Their strategy was not on point. It was Kylian Mbappe who finally gave them a 1-0 advantage in the 70th minute after scoring a goal from a spot kick. He continues to battle Lionel Messi for the Golden Boot.

3. Paraguay’s resilience not enough

The Paraguay national football team did not let the star-studded attack of France unlock their full potential. The Frenchmen failed to get past Paraguay’s defence. A slight mistake by Los Guaraníes was enough for Les Bleus to find a loophole.

Didier Deschamps’ side were awarded a penalty after Desire Doué was fouled. Mbappe was never in doubt from the spot. He helped his side to secure a 1-0 win. Paraguay’s resilience was not enough and they will now travel back home, but with their heads held high.

4. Controlling tempo and vast squad depth

Even though the Frenchmen lacked rhythm in the final third, they controlled most of the game and did not allow many chances to the Paraguay national football team. After Bradley Barcola was subbed off, Desire Doué came in to make an immediate impact in the final third. Then came in Rayan Cherki from the bench, who also helped his side maintain a strong tempo.

5. Mouth-watering clash for the quarterfinals

Kylian Mbappe and company will now meet Morocco in the FIFA World Cup quarter-final next. It is going to be an intense fixture out there. Both teams are fully equipped and have performed well in the mega competition this year. Neither of these sides can afford to make mistakes. France vs Morocco will be a must-watch encounter.

Who will France face in FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinals?

They are going to take on Morocco.
