The Seagulls are currently 17th in the league standings, with two games left to play to avoid relegation.

Pascal Gross scored the equalising goal in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United in their Premier League fixture on Saturday. The goal helped Brighton & Hove Albion secure a point and are now four points ahead of Cardiff City in the battle to avoid relegation with two games left to play. With Huddersfield Town and Fulham already confirmed relegated a few weeks ago, Brighton and Cardiff are involved in a direct contest to stay in the English top-flight for the next season.

The equalising goal from Gross ended a goal drought of six matches for the Seagulls and have put them in a strong position to ensure safety as Cardiff City were defeated at Fulham by a solitary goal from Ryan Babel. Speaking after the match, the Brighton playmaker said, “We got a point and Cardiff didn't, but we know in the two games left they can get six points. Of course we both have tough fixtures but there is a lot to play for. It's two games and anything can happen in the fight to stay up.

Speaking in the context of his leveller, the 27-year-old expressed his delight by adding that, "It was great to get that goal and end the run. It was a big relief for all of us and afterwards we were all pushing for a second goal to get the win. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it but we can take positives from the second 45.”

Moreover, he also expressed his frustration with the first-half performance and thanked the change in tactics and formation post the break that enabled them to find more opportunities going forward. “I don't know [what happened in the first half]...I was very disappointed. We conceded a goal and we were sloppy in possession, passing badly. But we knew we had 45 minutes left to change the game - go out, work hard, better ourselves and get something out the game. That's what we did.” said the German midfielder.
