Premier League 2019-20: Top 10 deadline day deals

8th August 2019 saw clubs going into overdrive to secure their targets.

Transfer window for Premier League teams came to an early shut down to avoid any interference with the start of the new season. The last day of the window saw clubs and their representatives going into the final gear to get deals over the line within the timeframe.

There was a lot of activity around the league on this deadline day, almost to a point where keeping track of them became tough. A whole host of players changed their teams on the last day and will play in new colors from now.

Therefore, we bring you the top 10 deals that took place in the Premier League on the deadline day.

10. Andy Carroll - West Ham United to Newcastle United

The former Liverpool striker secured his move to the Magpies who also happen to be the team he supported since his childhood and also started his professional career with, making over 80 appearances and scoring 31 times.

Newcastle United, under their new gaffer Steve Bruce have shown positive ambitions in the market and signing Carroll on a free after the striker was released by West Ham United seems to be a shrewd business.

9. Ryan Sessegnon - Fulham to Tottenham Hotspur

Ryan Sessegnon has had a decent couple of seasons at Fulham in the Championship and the Premier League last season. The young English full-back is very versatile and can also put a shift in an attacking role.

Tottenham Hotspur paid in the region of £25 million for the 19-year-old which can rise up to £30 million after bonuses. 

8. Dennis Praet - Sampdoria to Leicester City

Dennis Praet will make his Premier League debut after agreeing to join Leicester City who will be adding the midfielder alongside Youri Tielemans who signed a permanent deal with the Foxes after spending half of last season on loan.

The Belgian makes the move from Serie A outfit, Sampdoria, for a fee reported in the region of £18 million. The attacking midfielder will provide an extra attacking option for Brendan Rodgers and will be looking to make an early mark for his new team.

7. Ismaila Sarr - Rennes to Watford

The Senegalese winger, Ismaila Sarr joins Watford from Ligue 1 side, Rennes after agreeing a move for an undisclosed fee. He had an impressive last season for the French club after scoring 13 goals and making seven assists in all competitions.

Moreover, the 21-year-old played a crucial part in Senegal’s march to the finals of the African Cup of Nations 2019. A newcomer to the Premier League, it will be interesting to see what kind of an impact he has for the Hornets. 

6. Alex Iwobi - Arsenal to Everton

In one of the last signings of the deadline day, Everton managed to secure the services of the Nigerian winger, Alex Iwobi, from Arsenal for a fee reported to be in the region of £40 million, which is being touted as a smart sale from the London side.

The Merseyside club’s interest in the player was apparently recent and the 23-year-old would be looking to finally make a mark in the league after being on the fringes of the starting lineup for the Gunners. 

5. Kieran Tierney - Celtic to Arsenal

Arsenal were linked with a move for Kieran Tierney all summer long, but the talks had reached an impasse with Celtic over the transfer fees. The Scottish side were not ready to accept any offer under the £25 million mark for their star full-back.

With no option left, the Gunners ended up paying the demanded amount to secure the signature of the 22-year-old left-back who comes with a lot of potential and is an exciting prospect for the future.

4. David Luiz - Chelsea to Arsenal

Arsenal were one of the busiest clubs on the deadline day, with players coming in and out of the London based outfit. The Gunners managed to bring in, David Luiz from their city rivals, Chelsea FC in a quickfire move. 

In one of the most surprising moves of the summer, the Brazillian was signed for a fee around the £8 million mark and will provide much needed solidity in the defensive options available to Unai Emery. 

3. Joao Cancelo - Juventus to Manchester City

Joao Cancelo had been linked with a move to Manchester City since the start of the window, but the talks did not progress with Juventus being focused on other targets. As the deadline crept closer, the move finally took speed and saw it’s a conclusion on the final day.

English champions paid around €60 million for the attack-minded full-back which also saw Danilo move to the Serie A champions. 

2. Giovani Lo Celso - Real Betis to Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur lined up their second recruitment of the deadline day after confirming the signing of Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the contract.

The creative midfielder will certainly bolster Spurs’ midfield and improve their chances of pushing for the league title this year. It remains to be seen if this move means that Christian Eriksen is set to leave the London-based club as players can still be sold to other countries where transfer window is still open.

1. Romelu Lukaku - Manchester United to Inter Milan

Inter Milan finally got their main target for the summer after securing Romelu Lukaku’s services for a fee reported to be in the region of €65 million + €15 million in add-ons. The Belgian striker was out of favor at Manchester United and had not taken part in the side’s pre-season fixtures.

However, the Red Devils have not signed a replacement for their outgoing striker who spent two seasons at the club, scoring 46 goals in the process.
