Antonio Conte will be looking to strengthen his squad in the winter.

After succeeding Nuno Espirito Santo as the manager, Antonio Conte has slowly veered Tottenham Hotspur back into top-four contention. The Italian is synonymous with the 3-5-2 formation, one that he employs almost everywhere he goes. The former Inter Milan head coach inherited a fairly talented pool of players, but some more incomings could do wonders for the London-based side’s top-four chances.

Here we take a look at five players whose arrival in the January transfer window could bolster Conte’s team significantly.

5. Adama Traore (Wolves)

The Wolves speedster might be nearing his exit and Tottenham is one of the clubs interested in acquiring his services. While Conte has the likes of Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura on his wings, the addition of Traore will surely help in squad depth. The Spaniard has established himself as a threat down the right channel. Despite thinning goal contributions, his strength and quick feet are enough for Tottenham to sign him.

4. Franck Kessie (AC Milan)

The midfielder has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur since before Conte's arrival as manager. The current AC Milan player is one current best defensive midfielders in Europe, a position the white side of London might be lacking in. While Hojberg and Skipp are more than able to occupy the midfield, the club lacks a typical holding midfielder. This is where Franck Kessie comes in.

He has proved his mettle in Italy’s top division for six years, a player Conte himself encountered during his stint at Inter. Kessie’s ball-carrying abilities would be quite helpful for the Premier League team. Manchester United are also amongst those interested in the 25-year-old. However, Tottenham chief Daniel Levy is reportedly ready to make an attractive offer to the Ivorian midfielder.

3. Dejan Kulusevski (Juventus)

The Swede is another player who has Conte’s interest. Currently playing as a midfielder for Juventus, Dejan Kulusevski can be another great addition to Tottenham’s attacking line. Comfortable as a forward as well, the 21-year old could thrive alongside veteran Harry Kane.

Recent floating rumours suggest that Fabio Paratici, Tottenham’s managing director, is ready to offer two players in Giovanni Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele to secure the Kulusevski deal.

2. Alessio Romagnoli (AC Milan)

While the current defenders at Tottenham Hotspur, including the likes of Eric Dier and Ben Davies, have been steady in their defensive duties, they still lack the abilities of a quintessential centre-back. The last of this type was the Belgian duo of Vertonghen-Alderweireld. Therefore, Conte is eyeing the AC Milan skipper Alessio Romagnoli to better his back three.

The 26-year old Italian defender has attracted supposed interest from Chelsea as well, but Tottenham are more than keen to offer a contract to the player. His arrival would surely improve Conte’s defense and ensure less goals are conceded.

1. Tariq Lamptey (Brighton)

Antonio Conte has to put a lot of faith in his wing-backs as they form an integral part of his system. Sergio Reguilon has proved his worth on the left wing, while Emerson has been efficient on the right. Another option is Matt Doherty, but he isn’t the best in the final third.

Already flourishing in Graham Potter’s 3-4-1-2 system at Brighton, Tariq Lamptey could be a revelation for Antonio Conte and his team. The 21-year-old wing-back has become one of the most popular young talents in the Premier League. His unending work-rate and ability to take the ball up the pitch with ease can do wonders for Tottenham.

Fans and reports alike suggest that Brighton’s interest in Tottenham Hotspur’s Joe Rodon could very well be the ice-breaker for a deal to be brokered between the two clubs.
