The Indian Super League (ISL) action returns to Guwahati as NorthEast United FC host Panagiotis Dilmperis’s Punjab FC game at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on January 10, 2025, at 7:30 PM IST.
Punjab FC‘s HeadCoach Panagiotis Dilmperis addressed the media ahead of their clash against the Highlanders in a pre-match press conference.
The number of goals conceded by the Highlanders were 18 goals in the ISL out of which 12 come in the second half. Explaining the situation, Panagiotis Dilmperis, “I think there are plenty of reasons behind that. The first reason is I would help you more by saying that before the game with NorthEast United, we had only nine goals. We were the second-best defense. Suddenly this collapsed. So it’s not the second half of the season. It’s certain games that we had certain problems during the game with injured players.”
“I don’t think we are struggling, according to me, we are good. The players have come back from injuries. They need one or two games to get back into good shape. Most of them are fine. If Petros is coming also, then the squad is going to be full in all the positions.”
This fixture is a must-win game for both sides as the race for the top six gets intense. Speaking about their opponent the gaffer heaped praise on NorthEast United FC and their coach.
“I met the coach of NorthEast in Kolkata. He is a great person, a great coach with certain principles that you can see in a team. We know that they have a certain plan. We know the advantage that they have. In these games you have to stop the advantages, to disappear the advantages of the opponent. Make the opponent bring up the disadvantages and the opposite for your team. This is the thought about tomorrow,” Panagiotis Dilmperis stated.
“NorthEast United is like an engine. They have certain tools that they are making certain work. They are the Durand Cup Champions, They have a Great goalkeeper. He’s getting better and better day by day. They are good defensively too even their Left Back. Everybody believes that Aladdin is the key. But in my opinion, there are 11 keys there and you should be aware of all of them,” Panagiotis Dilmperis expressed.
Since the winter transfer window is open and The Shers have a few injury issues to be looking at, addressing the transfers, the tactician said, “We are looking for some Indian players with potential that can support our team, coming from ISL or even from I-League.”
