La Roja are chasing their second World Cup title victory since 2010.
Spain are scheduled to take on defending champions Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on April 19. La Roja, whose only triumph in the quadrennial competition came in 2010, are just one match away from becoming only the second team to simultaneously hold the European and world titles
Luis de la Fuente’s men recovered brilliantly from a shock opening-day draw against debutants Cape Verde. They topped Group H before cruising past Austria in the Round of 32. Unai Simón and the Spanish backline set a new record by not conceding a World Cup goal for 649 minutes.
They beat Portugal 1-0, courtesy of a late Mikel Merino goal. The midfielder scored another late goal in the 2-1 win over Belgium. La Roja then stunned tournament favourites France by beating them 2-0 in the semi-finals, sealing a place in the showpiece event tonight.

Thoughts on the lineup
Despite some fitness concerns, Luis de la Fuente has stuck with his preferred playing XI for tonight’s match. Unai Simon continues to be the established No. 1 for La Roja and starts between the sticks.
He is protected by the accomplished centre-back pairing of Aymeric Laporte and Pau Cubarsi. Pedro Porro had some muscular problems at the end of the France game, but the Tottenham Hotspur full-back is fit enough to start at right-back. Marc Cucurella starts at left-back.
Fabian Ruiz keeps his place in the team and starts in midfield alongside skipper Rodri. Dani Olmo starts in an advanced role, having clinched an assist against Les Bleus. The midfield pairing will be key in neutralising the Argentine attacks tonight.
There was quite a bit of concern about the availability of Lamine Yamal after the youngster was filmed with bandages on his left leg. However, he seems to have recovered from that particular issue as he starts on the right, with Alex Baena on the left.
Mikel Oyarzabal, who has scored five goals in the ongoing World Cup, starts up front as the lone centre-forward.
