The Schweizer-Nati will be the heavy underdogs in tonight’s match against La Albiceleste.

Switzerland will take on Argentina in an exciting FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final clash at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 11. The Schweizer-Nati are aiming to progress to the World Cup semi-finals for the first time in their history, but will face a massive test from the defending champions.

The European side topped Group B with two wins from three matches. They beat Algeria 2-0 in the Round of 32, with Breel Embolo and Dan Ndoye finding the back of the net. They faced a much tougher test in the next game against Colombia, beating them 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time.

Despite their decent form in the expanded 48-team World Cup in North America, the Schweizer-Nati are yet to beat Argentina in their last seven meetings. La Albiceleste will be the favourites for the upcoming clash, riding on Lionel Messi’s good form.

Thoughts on the lineup

Gregor Kobel is the established No. 1 for his club and country, and starts between the sticks tonight. Monaco utility man Denis Zakaria has started the last two games in the tournament and starts at right-back. Veteran full-back Ricardo Rodriguez retains his place on the left.

Nico Elvedi and Manuel Akanji have been the preferred centre-back pairing. Granit Xhaka is the beating heart of the Swiss midfield. He starts alongside Remo Freuler and Djibril Sow.

Breel Embolo has four goal contributions in the ongoing World Cup and starts as the team’s centre-forward. Dan Ndoye and Fabian Rieder have been solid on the flanks for the Nati and retain their starting places.
