The Spain vs Argentina clash will take place at MetLife Stadium tonight.
After 104 matches, Spain and Argentina are just one match away from becoming FIFA World Cup 2026 champions. Both sides will face off in the final in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 19, with the ultimate prize in football on the line.
The two standout teams in the competition will go head-to-head in what will be a fierce contest. La Roja are in excellent form, conceding just one goal throughout the tournament and aiming to win their second World Cup in 16 years.
La Albiceleste, meanwhile, are chasing history, seeking to become only the third team in World Cup history to successfully defend their title. Talismanic forward Lionel Messi is also on a personal crusade, chasing the Golden Boot as well as aiming to retake his status as the tournament’s all-time leading scorer.

FIFA World Cup 2026 final tentative timeline
11:00 AM local time (8:30 PM IST) – The gates of MetLife Stadium open, allowing fans to enter four hours before the kick-off.
1:30 PM local time (11:00 PM IST) – The closing ceremony begins, featuring a host of international superstars, including Post Malone, Robbie Williams, Laura Pausini, and Nicole Scherzinger. Tom Cruise is set to make a special appearance. Streamer IShowSpeed will also perform. Jennifer Hudson will sing the United States national anthem, followed by a rendition of “America the Beautiful” by Christopher Macchio.
2:50 PM local time (12:20 AM IST) – Players from both nations will walk out for the national anthems.
3:00 PM local time (12:30 AM IST) – The Spain vs Argentina match kicks off.
3:50 PM – 4:00 PM local time (1:20 AM – 1:30 AM IST) – Depending on the stoppage time, the half-time ceremony will begin soon after the half-time whistle is blown by referee Slavko Vincic.
After some uncertainty, FIFA confirmed that the entire half-time show will require 17 minutes. The show itself will be 11 minutes long, with six minutes set aside for assembling and disassembling the performance stage. However, this still exceeds the maximum of 15 minutes of half-time interval allowed by IFAB.
The half-time show will feature stars such as Justin Bieber, Shakira, and K-pop band BTS. Coldplay’s Chris Martin will conduct a performance by Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel, and the PS22 Chorus.
4:17 PM local time (1:47 AM IST) – The second half resumes after the half-time show concludes.
5:10 PM local time (2:40 AM IST) – Depending on the stoppage time allowed at the end of the match, the final whistle is blown.
5:30 PM – 5:40 PM local time (3:00 AM – 3:10 AM IST) – 20 to 30 minutes after the full-time whistle – whether it is at the end of regulation time, extra time, or after penalties – the FIFA World Cup 2026 trophy will be presented to the winning team by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and US President Donald Trump.
Extra time & penalties
If the scores are level at the end of the regulation 90 minutes, the match will go to 30 minutes of extra time and, potentially, a penalty shootout.
5:20 PM local time (2:50 AM IST) – Around 10 minutes or so after the end of the regulation period, the first half of extra time will kick off.
6:00 PM local time (3:30 AM IST) – Allowing for a little bit of stoppage time at the end of each half in extra time, the final whistle will likely be blown around this time. However, if the game still does not have a winner, we will go to a penalty shootout.
6:15 PM local time (3:45 AM IST) – Penalty shootouts usually take around 15 minutes, so we should definitely have our FIFA World Cup 2026 champions when the final whistle is blown. The trophy handover will take place 20-30 minutes after the end of the shootout.

The final will be played on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. In India, the match will kick off at 12:30 AM IST on July 20.
