These clubs displayed incredible consistency.

Football is a very unpredictable game. With the correct tactic, even an underdog team can get the better of a heavyweight. But, ever so often, a club manages to display incredible consistency. They manage to win matches or at least avoid defeat, despite not being at their best. This allows the clubs to go on impressive unbeaten runs.

It is very difficult to find a team that performs at a high level during each game. Many clubs have an off day on the field. But, despite that, some are able to get themselves on the correct side of the outcome. This helps them to build a winning mentality and go on a remarkable run of results. They embark on an undefeated streak and etch their name in the book of invincibility.

Let’s take a look at five European clubs with the longest unbeaten runs in football history.

5. Real Madrid (40 Games)

Rafael Benitez had a poor start as the Los Blancos' manager in the 2015-16 season. The Spaniard struggled to keep his team in the title race. Zinedine Zidane replaced him in January 2016.

This was the Frenchman’s first job as a professional manager. The former France international delivered. Real Madrid went on a 40-game undefeated run in all competitions, lasting from 2016 to 2017. During that streak, they won the Champions League, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup. Sevilla ended the run in January 2017.

4. AC Milan (42 Games)

The Rossoneri are giants of Italian football. They hold the longest undefeated record of any club in the country. Fabio Capello took over the team from Arrigo Sacchi in the 1991-92 season. Following this, AC Milan went on a 42-game undefeated streak in all competitions.

In that sensational run, AC Milan won the league and finished the league season undefeated. Only Juventus and Perugia have managed that feat in Italy’s top flight. However, Juventus defeated them in the Coppa Italia final to end the run.

AC Milan also hold the record of registering 58 unbeaten games in Serie A, the highest of any team in a top flight European league.

Juventus won the league title without losing a game. They had hopes of doing a double that season. However, the Bianconeri were defeated by Napoli in the Coppa Italia final. Ending their brilliant streak.

2. Dinamo Zagreb (45 Games)

The Croatian side are the most successful team in the country. They have dominated the domestic league multiple times. But, in the 2014-15 season showed their brilliance in Europe as well. They stitched a 45-game undefeated run in all competitions.

In this run, they won the Croatian domestic league. They also had recorded an impressive win over Arsenal in the Champions League. The streak was halted after a 5-0 loss to Bayern Munich.
