Four of the five footballers in this list have represented either Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund.
The Bundesliga is a league that has seen some of the most number of goals being scored in Europe. This is as a result of most of the teams playing an entertaining attacking brand of football. The league has also housed some of the prolific goalscorers of all-time, right from the likes of Gerd Muller to Robert Lewandowski.
The all-time top scorer till now, however, is Gerd Muller with 365 goals in 427 matches.
But who reached the milestone of being the fastest to score 50 goals in the Bundesliga? Let's find out the top five names.
5. Robert Lewandowski (91 matches)
Bayern Munich's Polish talisman reached 50 Bundesliga goals when he was just 24 years old. Though people mostly remember his exploits for the Bavarian giants, Lewandowski reached his 50th Bundesliga goal in Borussia Dortmund colours.
His initials days at the club were not so soothing as he netted the ball home eight times in 33 appearances. But the arrival of Jurgen Klopp brought the best out of the young forward. It took him 91 matches to get hold of his 50th Bundesliga goal. The goal came against Stuttgart in February 2013.
Since then, Lewandowski has already broken Gerd Muller’s record of most goals in a single season in May 2021. He is also Bayern Munich’s top scorer in the UEFA Champions League with 64 goals to his name. He also came second to Lionel Messi in the 2021 edition of the Ballon d'Or.
4. Arjen Robben (90 matches)
Arjen Robben is the only midfielder to feature in this list. He, along with Thomas Muller and Frank Ribery were part of a dangerous Bayern Munich side which created havoc. The winger who had plied his trade in clubs like Chelsea and Real Madrid, joined the Bavarians in 2009. It took the man just 90 matches to reach 50 Bundesliga goals in 2013.
Robben has scored a total of 99 Bundesliga goals for Bayern Munich in his 10 seasons at the club.
3. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (86 matches)
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the current Arsenal captain, scored his 50th goal in the Bundesliga on his 86th appearance for Borussia Dortmund. The goal came against Bayer Leverkusen, a match which Dortmund won 1-0.
The Gabonese marksman has scored a total of 98 goals in the Bundesliga for Dortmund, a feat which took him 144 matches.
Fun fact, Aubameyang scored a hattrick in his first Bundesliga match, which was against FC Augsburg.
2. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (85 matches)
Hunteelar is the only player on this list not to represent either Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund. It took the Dutch striker only 85 matches to reach his 50th goal in the Bundesliga. He played seven seasons at FC Schalke between 2010-2017 and scored 82 goals in 175 appearances in the Bundesliga for the club.
In 2012, Huntelaar became the first Dutch footballer to be named the top scorer in the Bundesliga. The striker had 29 goals to his name in 34 matches that season. In January 2021, he was brought back to help his former club FC Schalke. The player scored just two goals in nine matches and went on to become the oldest player to score for Schalke at the Bundesliga.
1. Erling Haaland (50 matches)
Erling Haaland has certainly been one of the best strikers in the world in recent times. He earned his reputation at RB Salzburg, after which Borussia Dortmund picked him up in the winter of 2019. Since then, there has been no looking back for the Norwegian youngster.
Erling Haaland scored his 50th Bundesliga goal against Wolfsburg. With this enormous feat of scoring 50 goals in as many matches, Haaland not only becomes the fastest player to record 50 goals in the Bundesliga but also the youngest to do it (21 years and 129 days). In fact, no player in history has reached 50 league goals faster than the Norwegian. Cristiano Ronaldo held this record, reaching 50 La Liga goals for Real Madrid in 51 games, before Haaland broke it.
