Usain Bolt retires from professional football
The Jamaican hanged up his boots after his football career did not pan out as he had wished.
After a brief stint in football, Usain Bolt has announced his retirement from the sport after giving up hopes of becoming a professional football player. In his statement, he added that, “it was fun while it lasted”.
The eight-time Olympic gold medallist always showed a keen interest in football and expressed his desire to play for his favourite club, Manchester United, one day. However, his footballing career was short-lived and was in all fairness, nothing more than a publicity stunt.
The 32-year-old was recently under trial at A-League side, Central Coast Mariners. He was eventually released by the club after spending two months. Bolt managed to make two appearances, both in friendly matches. He scored two goals against lowly Macarthur South West United for the Mariners.

The former sprinter also had a short training spell with the Norwegian side, Stromsgodset, and most notably, Borussia Dortmund. Bolt admitted that his stint in football did not work for him as he had hoped, and moving forward he is only going to focus on his business commitments, calling it time on his sporting career.
Speaking to Reuters, he said, “I don’t want to say it wasn’t dealt with properly, but I think we went about it, not the way we should and you learn your lesson, you live and you learn.”

The legendary sprinter will no longer be a part of any sport and will forever be remembered for his dominance in track events than for his football stint.
