The 67th edition of the EFL Cup, also known as the Carabao Cup, is taking place between August 1, 2026, and March 21, 2027. Founded in 1960 as the Football League Cup, this tournament is the second major cup competition in men’s domestic football in England, alongside the FA Cup.
The current holders are Manchester City, who beat Arsenal 2-0 in the 2025-26 final. This marked the ninth title win for City, just one fewer than Liverpool. The Reds are the most successful team in the tournament’s history with 10 titles.
Enzo Maresca’s City will look to defend their title. They will face tough competition from reigning Premier League champions Arsenal, as well as Chelsea, Manchester United, and others.

Like every season, the EFL Cup will feature all 92 teams from the English Premier League and the English Football League. The top-flight clubs not involved in Europe enter the competition from the second round. Meanwhile, the Premier League clubs involved in Europe enter from the third round.
The winner is assured of the iconic EFL Cup trophy as well as a place in the UEFA Conference League play-off round. If the winner has already qualified for Europe, the spot goes to the next-highest-ranked Premier League side outside the European qualification places.
