Ouattara was one of the most exciting young players in Ligue 1.
Ipswich Town have been extremely active in the transfer market since sealing promotion to the Premier League. The Tractor Boys have signed eight first-team players this summer, strengthening their roster for a gruelling top-flight campaign.
The latest player to join Gary O’Neil’s side is Strasbourg youngster Abdoul Ouattara. The Ivory Coast youth international, who is coming off a breakthrough season with RC Strasbourg in Ligue 1, has sealed a transfer to Ipswich Town for a €20 million fee. The player has signed a contract until 2031.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world and as soon as I knew the opportunity was there, to play in England under a manager I have already enjoyed working with, I jumped at it,” he said in a press release. “I am still young but have had some good experiences already and I can’t wait to meet the fans and my teammates and get started.”
Initially starting his career as a striker, he was transformed into a winger and then into an attacking midfielder. Currently, Ouattara plays on the right side of midfield, but he has been utilised as a right-back during his time at Strasbourg. He can also play in the left-back role.
Midfield had been a particular area that needed strengthening for Ipswich. The Tractor Boys had already signed two midfielders this summer. Florentino Luis joined from Burnley for £16 million, and Sasa Lukic signed from Fulham for £9 million.
