Premier League side Coventry City are reportedly set to sign young Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland. A report from Tipsbladet revealed that the Sky Blues have agreed a deal worth £23.14 million for the 20-year-old, with a further £2.57 million set to be paid in add-ons.
This would make Yirenkyi the biggest purchase in Coventry’s history. The West Midlands side, having sealed promotion to the top flight, have already smashed their transfer record three times in this window, signing Aurele Amenda (£17.1m), Loum Tchaouna (£20m), and Carl Rushworth (£22.1m).
Yirenkyi’s deal will also be the biggest transfer fee received by a Scandinavian club, smashing the previous record, which is also held by Nordsjaelland: the €25m sale of Ghana’s Ernest Nuamah to Lyon.
Reports say that Frank Lampard has been key in securing Yirenkyi’s services, with the Ghana international capable of playing in central midfield and in defence. He also has experience playing in Europe, making two appearances in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers this season.
He also impressed in the recent FIFA World Cup 2026, held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The midfielder scored a stoppage-time goal in the group-stage encounter against Panama, securing a 1-0 win for the Black Stars.
Interestingly, the player who set up that goal, Brandon Thomas-Asante, will be his new teammate at Coventry.

Born in Bechem, Ghana, Yirenkyi was a gifted student, winning a national robotics championship trophy at the age of 13. He began his football career at the age of 11 with the Right to Dream Academy, moving to the Nordsjaelland academy once he turned 18.
He made his senior debut for the Danish Superliga side in September 2024 in a league match against Viborg FF. He was permanently promoted to the first team in February 2025, quickly establishing himself as one of the key players for the team.
He finished the season with 34 appearances across all competitions, with 21 of them coming in the league. He scored two goals and set up two more. His impressive performances saw him called up for the Ghana national team, where he made his senior debut at the 2025 Unity Cup.
Since then, he has made 14 international appearances, scoring two goals. His goal in the World Cup made him the second-youngest Ghanaian to score in the tournament since Haminu Draman.
