Djylian N’Guessan, an 18-year-old Saint-Étienne and France U20 striker with seven caps, is poised to join Liverpool. Liverpool agreed to recruit a new striker in the last days of the transfer market, according to Fabrizio Romano, but he will not come until next summer.
It’s unknown how much Liverpool paid to sign N’Guessan, but Romano says that an agreement has been reached on the player’s end, and he has permission to undergo a medical test.
Liverpool supporters will be pleased that their club is planning for the long term, but they will also be expecting additional first-team arrivals this summer.

Djylian N’Guessan is a highly regarded French attacker who can play on either side and came up through AS Saint-Étienne’s junior system. Born on August 30, 2008, in Saint-Nazaire, France, he hails from a football family, with his father, Djylian N’Guessan, having played competitively for clubs such as Auxerre, Rangers, and Leicester City.
Djylian began his career at Saint-Étienne and advanced fast, making his debut for the club’s U17 team at the age of 14.
His quick ascent followed in the 2023-24 season, when he scored over 20 goals at the junior level before signing his first professional deal in November 2024 at the age of 16. He made his senior debut against Reims in January 2025, becoming Saint-Étienne’s youngest player to play since 1978.
N’Guessan has also performed for France’s youth teams, netting 12 goals in 14 appearances for U16 and 11 in 11 U17 games before getting promoted to the U20 squad.
