Ismaila Sarr scored in the 51st minute for the Lions of Teranga in tonight’s match.

Senegal took on Belgium in a Round of 32 clash in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington, on July 1. The African side took a 2-0 lead right after the restart against the Red Devils, with Ismaila Sarr scoring the second goal with a brilliant finish.

The Lions of Teranga took the lead right before the first-half hydration break courtesy of a goal from Habib Diarra. Belgium steadily grew into the contest, with Mory Diaw making three saves to protect the lead.

Just six minutes after the half-time break, however, Pape Thiaw’s side doubled the advantage. Moussa Niakhate played a long ball from near the halfway line. The Belgian backline was too deep to deal with it, and Sarr got behind them with ease. The Crystal Palace attacker chested down the ball smartly before firing a half-volley past Thibaut Courtois.

The AFCON 2025 finalists currently have one foot in the Round of 16, where they can face either the USA or Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Born in Saint-Louis, Sarr started his youth career with the Generation Foot academy. He was scouted by Metz and signed a five-year contract with the French side. He made his senior debut in 2016 and scored his first goal in February the following year. He finished his debut season with 31 league appearances, scoring five goals and registering five assists.

Rennes signed him for 17 million euros, handing him a four-year contract. His first season was cut short by a serious injury. After making his return, he helped the club qualify for the UEFA Europa League. He made 59 appearances across two seasons.

He departed for Watford for a club-record fee of 30 million euros. He made 128 league appearances for the Hornets. He remained with the club for a season after their relegation to the EFL Championship, but eventually left for Marseille in a deal worth 13 million euros.

He made 23 appearances for the French side, but suffered from inconsistent form. Despite this, Crystal Palace signed him in 2024 for a fee of 15 million euros. He settled quickly at the club, scoring 17 goals in 66 appearances across two seasons.

Having represented the Lions of Teranga at youth level, Sarr made his senior debut in 2016 and scored his first goal the next year. Since then, he has made 87 appearances for the national team, scoring 22 goals and registering 11 assists.
