Nico Williams has scored six goals across all competitions for La Roja.

Spain have defeated Argentina 1-0 to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup. After 120 minutes of high-intensity action, only one goal separated the two teams. The only goal was scored by Barcelona attacker Ferran Torres; however, the assist came from star winger Nico Williams.

Nico Williams was born on July 12, 2002, in Pamplona, Navarre, Spain, to Ghanaian immigrant parents. He started playing football at a young age when he joined the academy of CA Osasuna. However, much like his brother Inaki Williams, he later joined Athletic Bilbao in 2013 from his hometown side.

Williams later made his senior debut with the club’s farm side, Club Deportivo Basconia, during the 2019-20 season. In May 2020, he was promoted to Athletic Bilbao’s reserve team, playing in the Segunda División B.

He made his first team debut in the subsequent year, coming on as a second-half substitute during a 2–2 home draw against Real Valladolid. He scored for Bilbao for the first time in January 2022, and since then, he has become one of the top stars of the La Liga side.

He has solidified his position as one of the most promising players in Spanish top-tier football, too. Nico Williams has made 199 appearances for the senior team of Athletic Bilbao across all competitions, scoring 37 and assisting 37 goals.

Meanwhile, he received his first senior team call-up under Luis Enrique for the 2022–23 UEFA Nations League fixtures in September 2022. He made his debut in a 2–1 home defeat against Switzerland. Later in November, he scored his first goal during La Roja’s 3-1 triumph over Jordan. Williams has earned 36 caps for La Roja so far, where he has scored six goals.
