Patrick Beach kept two clean sheets in the group stage for the Socceroos.

Patrick Beach has emerged as Australia’s breakthrough star in the ongoing edition of the FIFA World Cup. The football world was surprised when the 22-year-old was named as the side’s first-choice goalkeeper against Türkiye over veteran Matt Ryan. And Beach has not disappointed.

In the group stage, the Melbourne City FC goalkeeper helped the Socceroos keep two clean sheets and conceded only two goals. In the round of 32 against Egypt, the 22-year-old conceded an early goal; however, he later solidified himself as Australia’s wall of defence.

Patrick Beach made two impressive saves in the last few minutes of regulation time to keep Australia’s hopes alive in the tournament. And as the match continues, Beach leaves no opportunities to impress.

Patrick Beach was born on August 6, 2003, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. When Beach started playing football in childhood, he played as a defender. Before committing his career to football, the 22-year-old used to play softball with his brothers. Thanks to his hand-eye coordination and quick reaction time, Beach was great at softball, too. Nevertheless, his skills also helped him make a smooth transition into football as a goalkeeper.

In 2021, he started playing at the Central Coast Mariners Academy. In July 2023, he joined Melbourne City FC on a five-year deal. Since then, he has played 64 games for the Australian side across all competitions, conceding 67 goals and keeping 24 clean sheets.
