Belgium sealed a dramatic 3-2 comeback win against Senegal in their Round of 32 clash in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington, on July 1. After trailing by two goals until the 85th minute, the Red Devils scored twice in 161 seconds to force extra time before clinching the match in the dying seconds.
Habib Diarra put the African side ahead in the 24th minute before Ismaila Sarr doubled the advantage soon after the half-time break. The Senegalese side looked set to progress to the Round of 16, but substitute Romelu Lukaku pulled one back in the 86th minute.
Youri Tielemans then bundled in another goal three minutes later to level the scores. As a result, the match went into extra time.
After an uneventful first period, the Red Devils exerted extreme pressure on Mory Diaw’s goal in the second half of extra time. The breakthrough came in the 118th minute. Dodi Lukebakio hit the crossbar, but the Belgian players complained about Lamine Camara’s challenge on Tielemans in the box.
After a lengthy review on the pitch-side monitor, referee Said Martinez awarded a penalty to the European team. Tielemans calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net, sealing a crucial victory for Rudy Garcia’s side.

Who will Belgium play next?
The result sealed Romelu Lukaku and Co.’s place in the last 16. As a result, they will play their Round of 16 clash in Seattle on July 6. Their opponent will be the winner of the clash between the USA and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
USA and Bosnia and Herzegovina will face off on July 1 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
