The FIFA World Cup 2026 final will also have a half-time show.

The final of the FIFA World Cup 2026 is only a few hours away. Three-time champions Argentina are set to face Spain in the summit clash in North America at the New York-New Jersey Stadium. Both teams have shown their footballing prowess to reach the final; however, all that is required right now is a final stretch.

Argentina superstar Lionel Messi, who is playing his third FIFA World Cup final, has the golden opportunity to become the only player to win the tournament twice as a captain. However, for that, he would have to overcome a team full of La Masia’s talented youngsters.

The most decorated player in football history, Messi claimed recently that he had completed football in Qatar four years ago; however, he would not let La Roja have an easy time at MetLife. However, whatever the result turns out to be, the triumphant side will receive the stellar FIFA World Cup trophy.

Unlike the other editions of the tournament, the FIFA World Cup 2026 will follow a different protocol. Alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, US President Donald Trump will also hand out the World Cup trophy to the winning team. The move was initially rumoured, but it has lately been confirmed by multiple reports.

Thus, the FIFA president will share the podium with an active political figure at the grandest stage of global football. During the last two World Cups in Qatar and Russia, Gianni Infantino solely handed over the trophy and the gold medals to the winning side.

However, it is not the first time these two major figures in football and geopolitics have come together on the podium to hand out accolades. Donald Trump was also present at the FIFA Club World Cup earlier this year. The US president accompanied Infantino to the podium as they handed the prize to Chelsea, who defeated Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the final.

There has been a change in fashion, with figures from outside sports increasingly involved in the game. However, it is still not the first time a world leader has stepped up to hand over a trophy. King Juan Carlos I did it in Spain back in 1982, while former Mexican president Miguel de la Madrid presented the trophy to Diego Maradona in 1986 after Argentina won the final.
