USA progressed to the next round of the FIFA World Cup 2026 with an emphatic victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina. It has set their date with their next opponent in the round of 16.
Even though they were far from convincing, the USA managed to get the job done. They claimed their only second-ever knockout round win in the competition.
Moreover, it was their first ever knockout round win since 2002, when they won against Mexico. Mauricio Pochettino’s side will now head into the next round. They will face a difficult opponent in the round of 16.

The United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) prevailed in a knockout game at the FIFA World Cup for the second time in the team’s history. They will now hope to make their first quarterfinal berth when they meet Belgium in the round of 16.
Belgium, the Group G champions, rallied from a 2-0 deficit against Senegal to win 3-2 in extra time on Wednesday, July 1. They did so just before the United States defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina to set up the match. The round of 16 match is scheduled for Monday, July 6, in Seattle.
Of course, American supporters will be seated for this battle. It is one of the more exciting games given how similar both teams are in terms of quality and capability.
The USA have appeared in terrific form throughout the competition. The first triumphs against Paraguay and Australia were nothing short of remarkable. They recovered from a meaningless loss to Turkey with a victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina to stay alive.
However, they will miss their key player and leading striker, Folarin Balogun. He will be unable to play owing to a red card in the round of 32.
