As the lineups were released for Manchester United’s final pre-season friendly before the new 2026-27 season, against AC Milan, fans were surprised to see two big names missing out: Benjamin Šeško & Mason Mount.

Let’s take a look at why both the Man United stars missed this pre-season friendly:

Benjamin Šeško

Benjamin Šeško picked up his lingering shin injury during a Premier League match against Liverpool in early May. While the knock did not look serious at first. But he aggravated it and missed the final three games of the 2025-26 season.

He has continued his rehabilitation into the pre-season. Šeško is back on the grass training with Manchester United and travelled for their camp in Ireland, but the friendly against AC Milan came too early for him, meaning he did not feature in any pre-season match minutes.

He looks set to miss the start of the Premier League 2026-27 season vs Hull City next weekend.

Mount was a regular feature in Man United’s early pre-season matches and impressed in a deeper line playmaker role.

Mason Mount picked up a foot injury, just 19 minutes into a pre-season friendly match against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on August 8, 2026.

He was substituted off and replaced by Tyler Fletcher. Coach Michael Carrick noted the substitution was made as a precaution because Mount “got kicked”. But he has missed his second successive match and there is no further update on his injury.
