Manchester United took on Tottenham Hotspur in a Matchday 6 fixture of the Premier League 2026-27 at Old Trafford on Saturday, October 10, 2026. The Red Devils were the heavy favourites against Spurs, who sat at the bottom of the league table.
The hosts were winless in their previous three games, having played out a 1-1 draw with Fulham in their last outing. Michael Carrick will be desperate for his side to return to winning ways against an out-of-form Spurs side. However, he was dealt a big fitness blow ahead of the match.
Benjamin Sesko, who joined Manchester United from RB Leipzig last season, was ruled out of the match with an injury, leaving Carrick short of options against Spurs.

Sesko was ruled out of tonight’s match with a persistent shin problem that required further medical tests. As a result, the United head coach confirmed that the Slovenian striker will miss the upcoming game. He had also missed the previous encounter against Fulham.
Sesko had earlier injured his shin last May against Liverpool. As a result, he missed the entire pre-season schedule. Carrick, however, refused to confirm that the recent injury was simply a flare-up of the previous issue.
“It’s not the exact issue,” Carrick said in the pre-match press conference.
“It’s a similar area, but it’s not the exact same thing again. And we’re kind of still working through it a little bit of seeing how long the issue will be. We’re hoping that it’ll be soon, obviously, but at this moment it’s still not quite clear.”
Carrick revealed that the club were considering their options to help Sesko recover and return to the pitch as quickly as possible.
“Yeah, there’s different things to look at. I think he had recovered really well actually from the initial one, and there was a lot of time, and sometimes things get thrown up,” Carrick said. “The body does certain things, and we’ve got to react to that and try and get him back as quick as we can.”
In Sesko’s absence, Carrick fielded Matheus Cunha as the No. 9 against Tottenham Hotspur. Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo started on the wings.
