Inter Miami will begin their Leagues Cup play tonight at Nu Stadium against Atlético de San Luis.
However, the club is set to miss one of their top goalscorers not only in tonight’s game but the whole tournament, as he has been suspended for the match due to his unruly behaviour in last season’s Leagues Cup.
Luis Suárez earned a six-game suspension for spitting at a Seattle Sounders staff member after Inter Miami fell 3-0 in the competition final in August, ensuring he would miss the whole 2026 event.
Inter Miami manager Guillermo Hoyos stated that Luis Suárez cannot be replaced as the squad prepares to compete in the Leagues Cup, owing to his extended ban.

Hoyos told reporters.
“Luis is irreplaceable. They are players that mark the path.”
The 39-year-old’s forced absence happens at a bad time for both the player and the club. Luis Suárez has been in excellent form recently, spearheading the Miami attack in the absence of Lionel Messi and Germán Berterame, scoring seven goals in his last four games.
After the final whistle of last year’s final, a scuffle erupted between Inter Miami and the Seattle Sounders, with Suárez being held back by teammates and coaches before spitting on one of the members of the other team’s staff.
Ex-Miami midfielder Sergio Busquets also punched former Seattle player Obed Vargas, while then-Miami defender Tomás Avilés was disciplined for hostile behaviour.
Hence, Inter Miami are set to be without their crucial player as they begin their Leagues Cup quest tonight.
