Spurs begin the new season away from home after barely avoiding relegation last term.
Brentford and Mohammed Kudus’ Tottenham Hotspur kick things off in Matchweek 1 of the 2026-27 Premier League season against each other. The game was played at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, 22 August.
Spurs somehow managed to stay alive and maintain their Premier League status after a rough 2025-26 season. It was not their first time finishing 17th after barely managing to stay in the league. They had a similar story in the 2024-25 season.
To help their cause and have a stronger finish this time around, Roberto De Zerbi’s side splashed a good amount of cash this summer. They signed Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes. The team had a fairly average pre-season run.
Now they take on Brentford in their Premier League opener.

Two big names were missing from the Spurs squad for today’s match. Mohammed Kudus and Pedro Porro didn’t make the final cut for facing Brentford away from home.
Star player Mohammed Kudus is currently sidelined with an injury. However, manager Roberto De Zerbi stated that he was nearing a return. Expect him to be back soon.
In the case of FIFA World Cup 2026 winner Pedro Porro, it was about match fitness. He was active in Spain’s run to win the international trophy this summer. With that, the fullback joined his club a bit latter than expected.
He is yet to reach his full fitness to begin the new season.
Both players should soon be back in aiding the team’s depth ahead of a long Premier League season.
