Will Vinicius Jr play tonight for Real Madrid vs AEK Athens in Champions League 2026-27 clash?

This will be the fifth-ever meeting between the two clubs!

For their fourth league phase fixture of the UEFA Champions League 2026-27 campaign, AEK Athens will go head-to-head against Vinicius Jr’s Real Madrid in an exciting contest. OPAP Arena in Athens, Greece, is all set to host this clash.

The Yellow-Blacks have been quite inconsistent with their recent performances. This is going to keep them under pressure for their upcoming UCL outing. They are up against the record winners of the competition, Real Madrid.

The Marko Nikolić-led side will be looking to establish early control of the game. Being at home is surely going to play an important role for them.

Real Madrid have been performing well and will be keen to extend their positive run of form. They have secured wins in all of their first three UEFA Champions League games this season. Under Jose Mourinho, the Spanish giants are finally looking to find the balance they were missing out on for quite a while now.

Los Merengues have been doing really well in the final third. But will they be able to keep it running with the presence of Vinicius Jr?

Will Vinicius Jr play against AEK Athens?

During the pre-match press conference, Jose Mourinho mentioned that the Brazilian star Vinicius Jr will start for Real Madrid in their upcoming UEFA Champions League outing against AEK Athens.

“Having many players is never a problem for me. Diomande can play on both wings, Brahim too, Endrick on the right, but also on the left… Of all of them, Vini is the player best suited to playing on the left wing. We know that,” said Mourinho.

Vinicius Jr now has a chance to shut down the critics in the upcoming fixture in the European competition. He was shown a red card against Villarreal in LaLiga and had been suspended for four matches in the domestic competition. The Brazilian forward has seen a serious dip in form since the beginning of the 2026-27 campaign.

Now he has a chance to shine for Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho. Yan Diomande has put in some sensational performances for the Meregues lately. Mourinho might not hesitate to bench Vini Jr. if the Brazilian fails to put in top efforts.
