⁠Belgium vs Slovakia: All-time head-to-head record

The Red Devils and the Falcons have met only thrice in international matches.

At a big competition, Belgium’s golden generation was never quite able to cross the finish line. The consequence of this is that the Red Devils now bear the disgrace of being the only team to have risen to the top of the FIFA Rankings without ever winning a World Cup or a continental tournament. Now, they try their luck in Euro 2024.

Jan Vertonghen who is 37 years older is still a starter at centre-back when healthy. Once again, Axel Witsel has been involved, but Thibaut Courtois has not been selected due to a disagreement with Domenico Tedesco, the man selected to succeed Roberto Martinez.

As the overwhelming favourites to win Group E, Tedesco’s team will play their second sectional encounter against Romania on June 22 and their final match against Ukraine four days later.

Slovakia will undoubtedly be aiming for second place in Group E. The Falcons last made it to the World Cup finals in 2010, where they advanced to the round of 16. However, they participated in Euro 2020 but were knocked out in the first round.

Slovakia’s best-ever finish in the competition came in the 2016 European Championship which was a last-16 spot. Coming into their opening match of Euro 2024, they won both of their friendly matches, 4-0 over both Wales and San Marino.

With 22 points from 10 games, Francesco Calzona’s team placed second in their European Championship qualifying group behind Portugal. They have only lost one of their previous seven games in every tournament.
