Abbosbek Fayzullaev recorded the first goal in the country’s World Cup history during Uzbekistan’s Group K match against Colombia at the Estadio Azteca. He found the net shortly at the hour mark, giving the White Wolves a historic equaliser.
It was a well-planned counter that included a superb run and cross from Khamdamov, followed by a wonderful volley from Shomurodov that Vargas only partially saved. It allowed Abbosbek Fayzullaev to head home on the rebound.
Fayzullaev’s goal will go down in the history of Uzbekistan. He became the first-ever goalscorer for his nation at the FIFA World Cup. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder gave a much-needed lifeline to the World Cup debutants when he headed the ball home off the rebound.
