Petar Sucic assisted Martin Baturina’s equaliser in the England vs Croatia match tonight.

Croatia gave a tough fight to England in their FIFA World Cup 2026 opener at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. After going down early to Harry Kane’s penalty, the Vatreni equalised through a wonderstrike by Martin Baturina, assisted by Sucic.

Kane broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, scoring from the spot after a foul in the box by Luka Modric. However, Baturina equalised in stunning fashion in the 36th minute. It was a wonderful move from them, with Inter Milan prodigy Sucic holding his own against John Stones in the box before playing it into the path of Baturina. The latter smashed it with real venom, finding the back of the net despite Jordan Pickford getting his fingertips on the ball.

Unfortunately for the Balkan nation, Kane restored England’s lead just six minutes later. Petar Musa equalised in first-half injury time, but Jude Bellingham’s fine finish just after the restart sealed the win for the Three Lions. Substitute Marcus Rashford added a fourth in the 85th minute.

Petar Sucic Profile

  • Age: 22
  • Position: Midfielder
  • Club: Inter Milan (Italy)

Born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he played for the youth academies of Bosnian sides Iskra Bugojno and Zrinjski Mostar. In the 2022 winter transfer window, he moved to Dinamo Zagreb, signing a five-year contract with the Croatian giants. He spent a year on loan back at Zrinjski, where he made his debut in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers at the age of 18.

Sucic made his Dinamo debut in 2023, and his good performances were rewarded with a new contract. However, he departed in 2025, joining Italian side Inter Milan in a €14.60 million deal. After representing his new side at the FIFA Club World Cup, he established himself as a key part of the Nerazzurri attack.

He finished his debut season with 50 appearances across all competitions, 34 of which came in Serie A. He scored four goals and registered four assists for the Italians as they clinched the Scudetto.

Despite representing Bosnia and Herzegovina up to the U-21 level, Sucic, who is an ethnic Croat, switched his international allegiance in 2024. He made his senior international debut in 2024, replacing Luka Modric in a match against Portugal.

Since then, he has earned 18 caps for the Chequered Ones, scoring a goal and registering two assists so far.
