Arne Slot issues Alexander Isak fitness & injury update ahead of Liverpool vs Burnley clash in Premier League

The Swedish international could make his debut for Liverpool against the Clarets.
Before Burnley’s match, Arne Slot discussed Alexander Isak’s fitness for the first time since he arrived from Newcastle United on deadline day.
The forward arrived in Liverpool on deadline day in a record-breaking £125 million deal, but Arne Slot hasn’t had a chance to publicly remark on the news before today’s press conference because the international started right after the summer window ended.
Updates on Alexander Isak’s potential debut for the Reds against the Clarets
Slot was questioned about Liverpool’s new signing’s possible debut prior to the Burnley match. He said:
“Don’t expect him to be every single game 90 minutes on the pitch. That’s definitely not going to happen in the upcoming weeks. He missed a proper preseason – I think he missed 3-4 months of team sessions, and so now we have to build him up gradually. So, that’s going to be a challenge, but we signed him not only for the upcoming weeks, we signed him for six years.”
Alexander Isak had his first training session with his new teammates on Wednesday, although he is still not fully fit as he barely played and was frozen out of the Newcastle squad during the pre-season.
During the recent international break, the 25-year-old only played 18 minutes in two games. Due to Isak’s lack of fitness, Sweden’s head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson decided not to start him against Slovenia; however, he did come off the bench in the team’s loss against Kosovo.
Liverpool’s new number nine is not anticipated to start against Burnley on Sunday due to a fitness issue, but could come off the bench and get some minutes as he hopes to gain full fitness once the season wears on.
Slot on Liverpool’s other players’ injury update
“I think Jeremie Frimpong is available,” said Slot. “He trained today with most of them after the international break.”
“Curtis Jones got injured in the last game and will not be available against Burnley. All of the players came back without injuries.”
Will Isak play against Burnley?
Isak could come off the bench to make his Reds debut this weekend.
Why did Slot say about Isak’s fitness?
The Liverpool manager revealed that the Swedish international isn’t fully fit and will get only some minutes in the upcoming matches.
Has Isak played any Premier League games this season?
He has not played any club football matches so far this term.
