The challenging job of reviving a fallen German giant has not found any takers yet.

FC Bayern Munich are in search of a new manager after deciding to part ways with Thomas Tuchel at the end of the 2023-24 season due to underwhelming performances and losing their streak of 11 Bundesliga wins in a row to Bayer Leverkusen.

The opportunity to manage a club like FC Bayern Munich is a rare one and does not fall to any ordinary tactician. However, to everyone’s surprise, the German giants have been rejected by a few notable figures. There are managers out there who have turned down the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to manage the club, which has shocked its fans.

As the search for the next manager continues, here is a look at the managers that have rejected FC Bayern Munich, telling them a stern “no” when the club least expected it:

Xabi Alonso

Xabi Alonso was the priority target as the next manager at FC Bayern Munich. The Spanish tactician has worked wonders with Bayer Leverkusen, guiding them to a first-ever German Bundesliga win in style. The club has produced a record-breaking 50-match unbeaten streak this season with only a handful of matches left to play.

Ending any speculation, in March 2024, Xabi Alonso dedicated his future to Bayer Leverkusen amidst increasing interest from Bayern Munich, rejecting the chance to manage the Bavarians next season. This came as a huge shock and pushed the club to look for alternatives.

Julian Nagelsmann

Julian Nagelsmann, the current manager of the German national football team, also rejected the chance to manage FC Bayern Munich for the second time in his career. The 36-year-old highly coveted tactician, focused on the 2024 UEFA Euros, decided to extend his contract with the national team to 2026.

Therefore, it ended a chance to return to the managerial position at Bayern Munich. Whether Nagelsmann was bitter about the untimely sacking back in 2023, only after two years at the helm remains a mystery but losing another target after failing to land Alonso was not in Bayern Munich’s plans.

Ralf Rangnick

Following the unexpected failure to convince both Xabi Alonso and Jules Nagelsmann to become manager of FC Bayern Munich, the club focused its energies towards former Manchester United and current Austria men’s national team manager, Ralf Rangnick.

However, the father of gegenpressing who is regarded as one of the sharpest tactical brains in football, also rejected the chance to manage the Bavarians. Deciding to not succeed Tuchel at FCB was a brave choice as the manager looks to continue his (good) work with the Austrian team.

“I am the Austrian team manager with all my heart. This job gives me incredible joy and I’m determined to continue successfully on the path we’ve chosen,” Rangnick said in a statement.

Oliver Glasner

The most recent disappointment for FC Bayern Munich comes in the face of Oliver Glasner who has been impressive at Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Under his management, the Eagles are soaring high, deflating Manchester United by 4-0 in one of their recent league fixtures. Helping Palace to five wins in the last six matches has earned Glasner a lot of admiration from the club’s fanbase.

FC Bayern Munich had talks with the tactician over a possible return to Germany but Crystal Palace deciding to step in and deny any clearance for Glasner to join Bayern Munich as manager ended any hopes of signing him. With four managers rejecting the chance to manage Bayern Munich, it will be interesting to see where the buck stops.
